Preventive and Kids Dentistry

Preventive Dentistry is of utmost importance in order to preserve the health of teeth and to ensure timely detection of dental issues.

Preventive dentistry is the practice of caring for teeth and gums to keep them healthy. Dentists assist patients in avoiding cavities, gum diseases, enamel wear, and much more.

Regular visits to the dentist, even if there isn’t an apparent issue, should be mandatory and become a routine for everyone.

At Dr. Minić Dental Clinic, preventive dentistry encompasses several procedures:

  • Dental examination of teeth and jaws
  • Advice on maintaining oral hygiene
  • Removal of soft and hard deposits
  • Fissure sealing
  • Tooth fluoridation

Dental Examination and Oral Hygiene Advice

Dentists at Dr. Minić’s clinic advise patients to have regular dental check-ups every six months. Early detection of problems with teeth or gums allows for faster, thorough, painless, and efficient solutions.

During the examination, the dentist will inspect the teeth and gums, and subsequently offer valuable advice on effective oral hygiene maintenance. Additionally, the dentist will answer all questions and address any concerns the patient might have.

Removal of Soft and Hard Deposits

Soft and hard dental deposits (dental plaque and tartar), as well as discoloration, are not just aesthetic issues. They are sticky layers of bacteria and food remnants that can cause tooth and gum disease.

The treatment for deposit removal is done using ultrasonics and air-polishing, also known as teeth sandblasting.

Ultrasonic tartar removal is a non-invasive and painless technique for removing hard deposits from teeth. These deposits cannot be completely removed through regular daily brushing and flossing.

Air-polishing (sandblasting) of teeth is a newer, increasingly popular method of teeth cleaning. After ultrasonic tartar cleaning, the treatment continues with air-polishing using the Air Flow sandblasting device.

Fissure Sealing

Fissure sealing is an extremely effective procedure used to prevent the development of cavities on the chewing surfaces of molars and premolars.

This process is most commonly performed during the period when teeth are most susceptible to cavities, specifically between ages 6 and 7.

With fissure sealing, a tooth can be protected for a very long period, from one to even ten years. The procedure is completely painless and lasts only a few minutes.

Tooth Fluoridation

Tooth fluoridation enhances their resistance to cavities. It also promotes tooth remineralization. Furthermore, if there are carious lesions present, their spread is halted by this process.

For tooth fluoridation, fluoride-based pastes and solutions are used. The procedure involves the direct application of fluoride onto tooth surfaces and is very brief. Depending on the individual oral health of the patient, fluoridation can be repeated every three, six, or twelve months.
